Fashion has revolutionised the way we view glamour today. After people like Coco Chanel, who have kindled the notion of fashion, the idea of style has evolved in a way not many can overlook. It was once an attribute necessary only for clothing, as people viewed it an integral part of life. However, decade after decade, the definition of fashion inflated past the boundary, allowing people to view it more as a tool that augmented confidence, and built self-esteem. As times passed, fashion gradually took the definition of art, a form more vital than luxury. Many didn’t know that fashion could be considered as fashion.
While some clapped in unison, a few denied accepting fashion as art – claiming that it receives a recognition more than it should. However, it is clear as day that the cycle of fashion wasn’t alone tethered to luxury, but more than that. As years progressed, film icons, influencers, models emerged gradually to assert so. They often claimed that fashion is more like art, a statement necessary to assert dominance.
It allows people to feel emancipated, expressing their imagination through what they wear. More often than not, it liberated people in ways we cannot fathom, if we do not put ourselves in their shoes.
For example, many who were out of place, and deliberately demure about their appearance, immediately greeted confidence after being introduced to fashion. Why? Partly because fashion redefines you, and magnifies confidence. It is a tool that somehow expresses your identity better than your own voice, especially because nonverbally represents the person you are.
A plain denim ensemble can create a dominant appearance, as much as a crop-top and a chequered trousers – much so because fashion depends on how you cater the style you wear. A person clad in a glowy, resplendent bodycon dress can make the same impact a person with plain oversized tee will, especially because fashion is a statement – an epitome of identity.
With growing fashion trends, it’s likely that people will evolve as per the style in the market – however, one thing that will remain unchanged is their identity. Fashion is more about standing out, yet being simple. It has become a language many communicate rather fluently now. High-end fashion doesn’t necessarily mean wearing clothes as heavy as a stone, but matching hoodies and sneakers impeccably well that the barrage of questions find no room in the house. While Versace and Valentino rushed the market on an upward slope, many local brands received as much recognition after following the progressive fashion cycle. It is more like embracing your full identity without fear or stigma, and brands like these have undeniably fueled fashion like none other.
Fashion is more than luxury due to multiple reasons, mostly since it allows people to personify their individuality through the glamour they display. It is the longest time that fashion has come into effect, permitting people to pursue lives with sheer comfort, ease and mobility, without feeling trapped and deliberately prisoned in what they wear.
It is believed that fashion often catalyses the way people lead their lives – helping change the vision they have about life – making it rather simpler when they take a bold move. It is time that we start considering fashion an imperative part of our lives, because more often than not, it defines us in a way we probably could not define ourselves.
