Leadership can be a complicated choice of word for many business models, especially if starting anew. But what isn’t new is the confidence you can assemble to proceed and build a fresh Startup model when there is still time.
Soft skills like leadership come handy when building a company of your own. Why? Because when the name is yours, the firm should be yours to lead. Leadership matters everywhere – because it is a key component required to build confidence and take ownership.
We will quite often consider startup entrepreneurs to be visionary pioneers, concocting the thoughts, coordinating the group and at last holding ownership for every profit and loss. There are innumerable instances of organisations that had a robust, ingenious strategy to bring structure to the firm, yet only fizzled with failure, due to wavering leadership. The failure of most startup models was primarily due to lack of grip.
Most people confuse leadership with burden and responsibility. While some part of leadership does come with a substantial amount of weight, most of it is about concocting new ideas to enroute the company’s success.
With time, the definition of leadership changed – but what remained the same is its capacity to hold the flag in position. There is no doubt that leaders of a company are not given birth to, but are raised with power. Debashis Chatterjee once mentioned about “mindful leadership” and its impact over time. He claimed and addressed the misconception revolving around the meaning of leadership at this point.
He said, “Leadership isn’t a position, it is a disposition. Another wrong assumption is that leadership is expertise, but it’s about reaching beyond the expertise that has to influence beyond your authority,” Chatterjee said while addressing a room full of CEOs, vice-presidents, proprietors, other leaders etc.
In his words, leadership does not really influence the position of power. According to many, leaders do not conform with ruling, but protect the place they have built, regardless whether or not it is their company.
There are numerous gaps to be addressed, as well as numerous requirements to be met in the market. But even 50 years forward, leadership will remain a skill as important as management that will push the strategies you have concocted in your mind. Leadership fuels ideas, helps take quicker decisions, assists making a robust team and facilitates playing by norms. It is important to understand the importance of leadership, among other equally significant skill sets. Why? Because, as also mentioned earlier, entrepreneurship is the need of the hour and it cannot be achieved alone with ideas.
