Biometrics, as already mentioned, is one of the most beneficial tools broadly used by different sectors to identify people as per their unique individuality. It is a mode to authenticate and verify whether a person truly is who they claim to be.
The technology of biometrics arrived first during the 500 BC. As far-fetched as that sounds, the concept of biometrics has come alive since then.
However, the first time a Biometric Identification System was fully equipped and used was in the 1800s, at Paris, France. The first Biometric Identification System was used by Alphonse Bertillon who developed a process of measuring particular body parts for further classification and comparison of criminals.
Within only the next century, Biometrics progressed dramatically as a field of research. There were such countless developments that took place in the 1900s that it’d rather be insane to attempt to show them all, so here are the features from the last part of the century,
- During the 1960s, a new technique hit research. A semi-automated facial recognition method was fruitfully developed. It required the administrators to display and analyse facial features captured as an image to Further analyse and extract the feature points present on their facial gradient. The present day usage of the same is when we try opening our smartphones with the help of our facial data.
- By the year of1969, technology evolved as fingerprint and facial recognition began being widely spread in law enforcement offices. In fact, the FBI was known to fund the development of the automated process. It helped the progress of newer, and more sophisticated sensors that now use biometric capture and data extraction.
Including banks, and other giant authorities are now using the formula of Biometrics to recognise voice, face, fingerprint, among others. It has become a key tool in the police identification circuit as well.
