The nation’s economy greatly benefits from the handicrafts industry, which also employs a sizable portion of artists and weavers. This will bring in significant foreign exchange for our nation.
The office of the Development Commissioner for Handicrafts, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, is working to minimize unemployment nationwide by offering developmental programs to handicraft artisans and weavers in an effort to increase employment opportunities in the handicrafts sector. In this connecgtion, with a view to help rural artisans overcome the COVID pandemic scenario, the office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) has developed a number of schemes aimed at running business modules.
For development of artisan shareholder of the producer company, M/s Sonaiporiya Handicraft Producer Company Ltd. Udmari, Nagaon,Assam was organized a Seminar today i.e. 22/01/2024 at Nagaon, Assam in assocatio with Handicrafts Service Center, Office of the DC (Handicrafts), Jorhat, Assam where 100 artisans were participated who are coming from the Producer Company Cluster.
The significance of e-commerce for the handicraft industry was discussed in detail with the attendees of this seminar. Shri Jayanta Singh, Handicrafts Promotion Officer, Govt. Of India, Ministry of Textiles presented before the participants in detailed about the E-Commerce platforms and necessary measures for conducting business through E-Commerce.
A number of resource persons, including Shri Harish Ranjan, Branch Manager of Indian Bank, Shri Indranil Bose, C. A. Bose & Company, and Shri Bhaskar Baruah, Project Officer, EPCH, discussed their experiences in this seminar and covered important subjects related to selling handicraft goods and making money from the handicraft industry.
