Today marked the start of the Craft Demonstration and Awareness Program at Debangi Garden, Nagaon, Assam which was designed to promote traditional crafts and raise awareness about their importance. The Ministry of Textiles, Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicraft) has sanctioned the event to promote the growth of rural artisans.
The event was all about skillful artisans from the Itapara, Majarati, Katimari Pather, and Rangagorah Huz clusters demonstrating crafts. The artisans displayed a variety of Traditional Crafts, such as Artistic Textile Weaving, Jute Products, and more. Attendees had the chance to observe the complex process of making these items and engage with the craftsmen, acquiring firsthand knowledge about the techniques and cultural significance behind each art.
Along with the craft demonstrations, the program had informative sessions on the historical and cultural significance of traditional crafts. The Expert were informed by experts and scholars in the field about the impact of globalization on traditional crafts and the importance of their preservation.
The Craft Demonstration and Awareness Program in Debangi Garden was a huge success, bringing together artisans, experts, and enthusiasts to honor and promote traditional crafts. The event not only showcased the region’s rich cultural heritage, but also made people aware of the challenges traditional craftsmen face. The program was made significant by Mr. M. Hussain from DICC, Nagaon’s active participation and underscored the importance of government support in preserving and promoting traditional crafts. Future initiatives that aim to safeguard and promote indigenous art and craftsmanship will be encouraged by the positive precedent set by the three-day event.
The said program is organized by M/s Sonaiporiya Handicraft Producer Company Ltd. Udmari, Nagaon, with the support of the DC (Handicrafts) office in New Delhi, will be developing the share holders of the producer company from 02/01/2024 to 04/01/2024.
